From what you wrote, I understand that your daughter was diagnosed 8 years ago and "there were no pens with insulin cartridges" then. I am just curious when those pens were made available in the States. My younger son was diagnosed in 1993 in Russia, and we started on pens. When we came here in 1996, we were told to switch to multiple daily injections, then tried Animas pump for 5.5 years which was the worst time. My son got off the pump in October 2007, and is currently on Lantus & Humalog. I want him to start using pens with Humalog as he doesn't want to carry vials and Humalog to college with him and simply doesn't eat anything which is not good at all.
