Yes, we did look at sub-categories of Type 1 diabetes that might have added extra impact to an application to conduct trials. There are downsides---any fatality during a trial would be attributed to the transplant until proved otherwise, and this would terminate ( for a long while) any similar trials. Fatalities are of course seen in people who already have advanced complications.
This does not mean that people with such complications will be excluded after the trial period is over
