Professor Elliot: I know that there are not enough human islets available to even make a small dent in the need for the world's diabetics. That said, have you ever given thought to encapsulating some human islets and doing the transplants in some humans for the sole purpose of evaluating your encapsulating process in terms of viability and longevity. It would seem to me that this would let you develop your process in New Zealand or Australia without the objections of the people who are scared of pig islet transplantation, and when they finally come around, you would be set to insert the pig islets and be ready to apply your technique a lot sooner.
