That's why I vented here. I know we're not the only ones going through this.

Part of the problem is that diabetes became a control issue between him and me. (Kid growing up, doesn't want Mommy hovering over them anymore. Typical teenage stuff.) He fought me tooth and nail for control over "his" disease. Then, once he got it, he found the responsibility overwhelming.

Now the reality is starting to dawn on him that he can't forget to bolus, he can't screw around with his sugars any more. He's starting to get scared, and he doesn't know what to do with that fear. It's hard for him to turn to me for advice because it feels like he's going back to his Mommy for help. (Damn that teenage pride!)

I'm having him read Bernstein today to give him the tools to do what he needs to do. (This way Dr. Bernstein is giving him advice, not his mom. He can listen to an older guy easier. He does like the book.) I also called MiniMed to get new sets for lean people. We also called our insurance to see if he could see adult endos instead of pediatric. (Pediatric endos are a bit condescending for his taste. I'm not hopeful of finding a good dr, but will do what I can.) They said yes.

I asked him to gut it out until his birthday in September. Then he can get a CGM and a new pump. I told him that, if he wanted, he could have a "Pump Holiday" for the summer and go back to the shots until then.

I don't know what else I can do for him. There's this boundary between a teenage boy and his mom that makes everything 10x more difficult. "Help me! Stop! Back off! I can do it myself! Why aren't you helping me??" ~~8-\
