It has been known for at least a decade that the insulin receptor is in the form of a dimer on the plasma membrane and forms functional (?) mixed receptors with the IGF-1 receptor molecules and endothelin receptor molecules. It seems very possible that drug interactions between IR:IGF receptor pairs on the PM with a modified insulin could occur and be responsible for the noted cancer promoting effects.
