I don't think that Pfizer believes anything different than its spokesman said. It makes sense, otherwise why spend all that time and money in a drug that has plenty of downside? Given the choice, why would anyone want to carry around a mosster sized device to take inhaled insulin which has shown in some cases to be less effective in controlling bg levels than conventional shots.
