When it all gets overwhelming (which, even after 23 years, still happens occasionally) I sometimes scream "I hate these shots!" Those that know and love me know that what I'm really saying is "I hate having to plan every meal and every activity in advance to ensure that I will never get too high or too low. I hate sometimes waking up at 3:00 am covered in sweat and not even knowing what my name is. I hate having to go to the ophtho every three months, the endo every three months, and the nephro once a year and still manage to keep a job that only allows three sick days a year. I have having to take my blood sugar every time I want to get behind the wheel and I hate having to carry a suitcase-sized purse just to ensure I have room for all my supplies. I have going to medical professional who don't even understand the difference between type 1 and type 2. I hate all the "advice" from ill-informed, well-meaning "friends" who think if I just found the right herb I could stop taking shots. I hate that the insulin I've been taking for over 15 years has been discontinued just because the drug companies think billions in profits are insufficient!"

But see, all these researchers hear is the "I hate these shots!"
