Don't buy Accucheck Compact meters. They are junk in my opinion. Plus, they have an operating flaw that causes strip waste.
First let me say that I just called Accucheck to get my current meter replaced. They are sending me a new one (my sixth) and it should be here in about three days via Fedex. This meter they are replacing is the fifth one to fail. All have, over time, refused to turn on. I have been so disgusted with them that I switched to the FreeStyle Flash which is the best meter I have ever owned. I bought my most recent Accucheck to use up the remaining strips I own. It failed after about 350 tests. All prior Accuchecks failed in the same way. I only have 28 strips left but called for replacement anyway because I am very p.. off about a company that would put out such a poorly designed product in the market place.
The design flaw is as follows: If you start a test and the meter despenses a strip from the drum you only have a limited period of time to get you finger pricked and the drop on the strips. The meter will turn itself off after it times out if no drop is applied. When you turn the meter back on the strip is ejected from the meter making it useless. This does not happen often but is a major annoyance when it does, it also cost money.
Be forwarned this meter is junk and completely unreliable.
