How heart warming. But there is an undertone in this story, which I have often noticed in the way diabetics are treated, of outsiders meddling with, overcontrolling, and condescending to the patient. Many an endocrinologist will try to turn you into his trained showdog if you don't take control of your disease for yourself and tell him where to go. A physician can be board certified as a diabetologist if he spends 200 bedside hours treating diabetics in a hospital. I have had 168 beside hours of treating my own case of diabetes every week since October, 1966. There is simply no comparison between what an outsider understands and what I do, at least after I had augmented my personal knowledge with some scientific study.
